    Mini Chopper build

I'm hoping this classifies as a mini build, inbetween jeeps why not try something else?

Just thought I would put this up. If anyone is interested in having one eventually I might build more. Not sure on a price yet, but it is going to be pretty sweet.

5.5 horse honda, with a torque converter, it should do 70 km I'm hoping at least. That's fast enough for me.

I'll post up pictures as it goes maybe. The second is a mock up for the forks and shows the motor, painted and polished down to the last nut. The third is primered.

Well, I guess there aren't many options. You could go a golf cart tire but im not sure I like it. Plus this tire was 10 bucks at the local small engine shop.

    Any suggestions?

Also any comments on straight bars vs ape hangers would be nice. I have both, but with ape hangers a large rider can stretch out a little more. Here's a pic with apes and a the gas tank.

Lookin good man. I used a slick off a sod loader. Its about golf cart size. It works good to air down a bit, because of hard tail. PS trailer fender, 1X1 square tube, Moped front end, and a 79' Yamaha IT 250 motor bored .30 over. The front hub brake did'nt last long. It can be a handfull, but not as hard to ride as one might think. I used the original rear sprocket, so first two gears are get for walking speed putting. If you can find a dirtbike motor you will like it.

edit: The straight bars give control, and I didn't put much rake in it. Your style is more cruise. The bars, motor, and rake your running fit the style. I wouldn't put drag bars on that rake myself.

Ah I dunno the rake, I just held it where I liked it and marked it with a marker. Just a cruiser ya, I'll probably put apes on it. Basically I was hoping to do the same thing, build a bigger one but I found that a Honda shadow is good enough of a platform to start, so during the winter that is getting 'bobbed'. Youtube "vlx bobber" comes up with similar what I plan on doing. I like the old school white wall tires and the like.

Oh man, ya they are sweet. I already have the whitewalls, they just aren't on yet. Busy putting in the lowering kit for it here, and seeing what it might be like with everything off, and a little bobber seat put on.

it rides pretty good, I widened the apes about 2 inches so it is a bit better, but the rake and the apes make it obviously not a race bike to drive. so ya, but really fun.. more pictures coming!

What about a fat trailer tire? They are designed for the road.

okay, so basically anyone who can weld can build one, heck if you can't weld, you are all set too.

ive been set on building this for several years and did quite a bit of research, basically it came down to i didn't have a bender, or a welder, so i couldnt bend it and i couldnt weld it my self. So in my internet travels i found a great site, www.westcoastminichoppers.com where they sell them full rolling chassis etc, just frame, welded frame or non welded frame.

So i bought a 230v welder for 150 bucks with a full roll of wire, and a tank of gas so that was such a good deal i was happy. then i got the non welded kit for like 99 bucks on the chopper website, and shipped it to a friend in the states and picked it up my self cuz we were going there anyway. so it wasnt expensive, and me and a friend welded it up. check out the website .

the motor is a 5.5 honda. any motor will work. the bigger the better. i just had it on an old pressure washer that the pump broke.

Tire - 10 bucks at a small engine shop

front tire, was 25 bucks at a bicycle shop.

front rim ( from chopper website)

rim - 8 x8 polished aluminum ,cant remember the price.. like 40 bucks online. or so. next time i would go a 10 inch rim. and axle and disc brake caliper(also from chopper website) that uses the sprocket as a disc .

chrome breather, 15 bucks at motorcycle shop.

air tube . junk pile. etc etc.

handle bars, an old mini bike, i widened them so they look better.

the seat. an old stop sign, bent , reinforced, and a sheat of foam from a life jacket glued on with landscape glue, it will be covered with black vinyl or leather later.

Basically it would save everyone money to build one them selves i think. ?

OH .. comet torque converter.... 179.99 online in the states. shipping... taxes.. customs blah blah blah not included. comes around 250 to 300 . or 279 taxes not includedat princess auto anywhere here.

To sell this one, I would start at 1000.00 bucks, after the paint job, which will be so custom its not even funny. If some one wants this one. request a paint job now lol.

and i wouldnt go much lower in price. If some one wants one, its cheaper to scrounge around, and get stuff your self.. parts tend to add up if its all bought in one lump sum. not including. chain, sprocket, sprocket hub and wheel hub, handle bar grips. stuff like that.

It goes 65 km with a 200+ lbs rider. it is pimp, and definatly turns heads!

Hopefully this helps out some one who is interested.

well i was looking around the web today and come across some that gets old and made in the toronto area....

here is a couple links to them that i have found on the kijiji site...

    http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...QAdIdZ75600814

i really liking one like this tho

    http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...QAdIdZ51646933

but if you get a nice paint job and it goes like you say it does, i dont think 1000bucks isnt all that bad tho...
