    The reason I used the spring to hold it ENGADGED, or connected was if something ever messed up with my cable, or lever. Didn't want to be stuck without 4x4 at a bad time. Also, The wimpy bike cable coundn't do the push/pull thing. I like the stout ways displayed here more then how i did it, but I never had a problem with it.
