    SBC flexplate

Can anyone tell me which flex plate to use? The application is an 86 305 with a one piece rear main seal. The original tranny was a 2wd th400, now converted to 4wd th350 using the torque converter for the 350 what is the proper flexplate? This may sound like a dumb question, but in doing research I keep coming up with conflicting answers. Any help would be great.

86 was the change over year IIRC so 86 to 94 flexplate for either tranny ( th350 &th400 use the same torque converter ) just make sure it has counter weights. it should also be 168 tooth. You will also need to know weather your bolt pattern on the TC is 10.75" or 11.5", that will depend on the TC your using.

thanks dvs, 350 and 400 are different TC, 350 and 700r4 are the same i believe. My actual problem is that there is a .25" gap between the tabs on the TC and the flex plate. Right now it is just shimmed but i don't want to run it like that, so i need more offset on the flex plate.

TH350 and TH400 can use the same TC.

3/16" to 1/4" gap is normal, I thought the same thing with mine, call my local tranny shop and they said thats normal for the TH350. My bolts barely touched the TC when it was all the way in. 1/4" gap. Just slide the TC forward till it touches the Flexplate and bolt it up. Thats what I was told and have had no problems.
