    Alternator in Pontiac Montana

Anybody ever change the Alternator in a Pontica Montana (2003)? I don't have the Haynes manual, but found the procedure and apparently I have to rotate the motor forward to work on it???? WTF!! "Put the car into neutral and attach a strap to the engine lift hook and the other end around the radiator support bar. Pull on the strap so that the engine moves toward the front of the car until you have enough room to remove the alternator and then secure this position." <--- seriously??

Has anybody worked on these and is this necessary??

    Thx,
    J

JUST pull the front two dogbones, motor rotates easy after that, pull the wiper trans too.

If you're not looking forward to this, wait till you have to do a thermostat. Or headgaskets.

Seriously, these damn vehicles are a service nightmare, and probably the only reason I still have a job. (GM Service)

And for the record, certain years of 3.4 mounts have an extra hole in the front "dog bone" mounts for securing the engine forward while you service the rear bank, hope this helps.

Put a jack under the subframe and drop the two front subframe mount bolts (18mm).

Pull the bolts out of the coil pack mounting late and let it drop. You can sneak the generator out from there without undoing the wiper transmission.

Pulling the engine forward just makes the back of it closer to the cowl and harder to get the generator out.
