the problems with optima have just started in the last 2 years or so..
a 7 year old battery would be one of the real optima's

i bought my first redtop almost 2 years ago. 17 months in it started having big problems. even needed a couple of boosts. load tested it. done. took it pack to P.I. where i bought it, exchanged it straight. 18 month warranty. no problems there. I work with all kinds of storage batterys, so i know even the good ones can go bad. the new one's working just fine.

after killing endless batteries in the XJ I got a "Purple Haze" from Crappy Tire... will keep u posted on how long this one lasts but already all my lights are brighter and I don't get issues with my off-road lights stealing power from my stereo system... Apparently they are equivalent to the Yellow-top but cheaper with 18month warranty.

the misus had a red top for almost five years and it finally went bad after throwing it in the zj and beating it with a stereo that should have two batteries. that being said i put a 180 amp alternator in the zj as well as a yellow top and that thing works flawlessly no light dimming even with extra lights and everything else.
