Is it 20yrs and older, and no more etest required?

I own a 1989 YJ, this year it's 20yrs old, I have been getting different answers, even from the ministry of transportation who seem to have different answers for me. So the answer I was given from the ministry is "you don't need an etest any more". that was from one of the tellers, the teller beside him said that "you have to get an etest every year now that it's 20yrs old".
Is there somebody here that either works for the ministry and or knows the "right" answer!! I thought 20yrs and older and your exempt!

88 and newer get tested forever or till they change the law again, there is no more 20 years rule.

The Tellers at most Licence Centers do not work for the MTO, they are privately owned facilities and for the most part are not upto date on the laws, they strickly go by what shows up on there computer screen.

So Yes, you will need to continue to etest

^ yep that right... anything with a model year or 88 or newer is required to pass an etest every 2 years for most of Ontario (there are still areas in Northern Ontario that don't require etest's)
