Cherokee Rear sheet steel bumper plus tire carrier

    So,

I was to be designing a Grand cherokee rear bumper but I ended up getting roped into designging a cherokee bumper first.

This is for a good friend of mine that wanted something light but equally strong while having a tire carrier.

It is coming together very well and I would not have gotten this far with out a bunch of help from a couple of my friends building some of the more complex parts.

For now here is the drawings but I will have build pics after this weekend

just a thought, could you angle the tire mounting plate so thatits at the same angle as the rear glass?

I could mount the tire carrier on the same angle as the window but it would make the fab of the tire carrier that much harder. Single plane does not require me to bend the front and rear plates of the carrier.

It will be something that I look into in the future because it reduces the moment created by the tire hanging off of the carrier. this reduces the stress on the entire carrier arm by keeping the force in line with the main supports.

At the moment the entire bumper and carrier is approximately 125 lbs, but there is still more to be added. I figure all said and done it will be around 140lbs.

    Guys,

I'm currently trying to get the side extensions all figured out.

I will see about doing the angle, it might be possible with out changing the tower, just the mounting to it.

Let me see what I come up with tonight and we will go from there.

looks like it will be in the neighbourhood of 125 to 140lbs with all of the extra's

Still have to put a mount for a high lift and some other simple tools.

as far as price is concerned, I will have to get the quote back from the laser cutter, then see how much labour is involved in the build up and go from there.

I am going to finish up the 2d drawings and send them out to get cut for friday or sat morn pickup.
