    Project Pit Boyz

well i decided to enter a van in the Schomberg Derby...
we have 3 sponsors on board so far... title sponsor is TMR Customs and Motive Media, with the Pit Boyz/Girlz (naturally) and possible my firehall. still need 1 or 2 more sponsors, if any one is interested.

so here is our progress so far...

started with a 93 Merc Villager, actually not a bad van... a bit of rot, but that is too be expected.

runs mint and tranny is strong.

Adam and i started this morning and we have pretty much gutted the rear and removed most of the glass... windshield is yet to come out.

we need to remove the stock gas tank and use either a cell or marine grade gas tank... no bigger then 5 gallons... with an inline fuel pump (preferred) or we can use a in tank pump provided it passes tech.

has anyone built a derby car before? what did you use for the pump?

here are some pics... sorry for the quality, but i forgot my card reader at home and good pics are trapped on my camera.

did know where to put this mods can move if they wish... but it is a build so that why i put it here

for my derby adventure we hacked the stock pump out of the tank with about a 10" square of steel with it

we then welded it into a cube fabbed out of 11Ga steel. (just go over the seams with a good sealer, can't remember if we used silicon or similar)

it passed tech insp. and worked great saved having to buy a pump and sort out wiring

this was for the milton fair, is that where you are competing?

we have used something similar to whats CANADIAN ZJ said, except we used a boat tank and cut the top out of it then siliconed the crap out of it and it passed.

now we have one that someone made and i beleive the pump is out of an astro van, we ran it in a v8 car and a few 4 cylinder cars without any trouble

i'll have a look at the trailer this weekend.. i might have a 5 gal steel tank from my old johnson outboard... just cant remember if i took it to the Combat graveyard with the boat or not..

i seem to remember keeping it because it worked with my other motor.. if its there i'll bring it back for you

dont quote me on that, but for some reason thats whats ringing a bell. i think the pump was modified to fit in the boat tank, i think all you have to do is shorten the pickup lines n such that go in the tank.

as long as it almost hits the bottom i think it will be fine
