    Coilovers springs

is there a local shop to deal with for springs?? i also need a bit of help calculating what i need:confused: what is a good # to use for corner sprung weight??? i was using 500# but it came up with 130/90# i cant get a 16" coil at 130. so do i go with 2 14" spring slightly heavier and a tender???? i have to 12" springs 250/200 now and im sitting 3-4" too high. gotta get the travel down.

did some more math. looks like 150/200sould work fine. which is nice since i have 2 sets of 200lb'ers, just gotta figure out what lengths to use. i could go with 2 14' s and hopefully avoid the helper springs. probably going to order stright from blue coil for 62us. well see.

    ^^Great calculator.

150's are common for a tender on many Jeeps but 200 for the firm is on the light side for a Jeep like yours. Pop your numbers into the calculator and tell us what you come up with.

There is no way your Jeep is going to be 500 LBS/corner sprung weight - it is going to be heavier. If you don't have a current total weight (sprung + unsprung - unsprung is fairly easy to accurately estimate), you are going to have to do some guesstimating.

What length shocks are you using?? By helpers, are you referring to a short triple rate tender....or something else??

yes helperss tripple rate, depends who you talk to. i used a combination of Bill Vistas calculator and Sway away's, didnt really like FOA's used CSW at 900 and my angles with the frequency close to 1 it came up with 150/200. however............ i noticed the the way i had the jeep on the jack stands. the rear was being supported by the skid plate. so it dawned on me that the weight ratio wouldnt be correct. so i moved the rear supports to the rear frame and the trunk levels out at about 4.5-5" uptavel with 200/250 springs bothe 14" and the adjusting nut all the way up. the stop collars are way to low i have about 1/2" travel before the second rate kikss in. and on full droop there iws slack in the springs. so my thinking is, get 150# tenders the jeep should sit too low adjusting preload nut to get required height this should alos stop the springs from going slack on full droop and hopefully i wont have to adjust the stops as i was told good luck if i wanted to get them off... that clear everythign up?!?!

Assuming dual rate, I would suggest 16" 250 firms and 14" 150 tenders. This should give you tons of droop travel preload and you will be able to assemble the shocks and springs without much trouble. I assume you are after around 2" of compression travel on the tender before the firms kick in?

900 in/lb combined spring rate sounds high to end up with a 150/200 dual rate. I must be missing something. Exactly what is wrong with the FOA calculator?

the only reason i didnt like the FOA calculator is it only allowed for alpha angle inputs. my shocks are about 5* towards middle and 12* from verticle. Also no frequency numbers. now i dont fully understand frequency other than i should be looking for somwhere between .9 and 1.1 from my research. and yes with 5" of up travel(4.5 with tj bump stop on shock) i would like around 2" before the stiffer rate kiked in. your numbers is kinda what i cam up with but i was also hoping i was wrong as i now have to buy 4 new springs instead of 2
