    4.3 life span

I am looking at a 2000 s10 with manual trans and a 4.3 with 220 000km. Can anyone tell me what the life span is on these engines? I just dont want to replace the engine 6 months from now. Being a used truck its hard to tell what kind of life it has had. Also looking at a 2.2 4cyl with 188 000kms. any one have expeirence with either of these two?

I had a 92 Astro with the 4.3 and it had 420 000 original km's before I scrapped it because everything rotted around the drivetrain.

the engine has probaly been replaced.
the factory engine had some rod bearing problems im not sure exacty why it goes through bearings, but man i have seen and replaced alot of 4.3 due to bearing problems.

one that has been rebuilt will go forever without issue

4.3 has a better lifespan, most common prob that i remember is intake gasket and re-occuring O2 sensor issues (has 3 of them, tossing bosch ones in is about as condusive to yer wallet as a lapdance)

we put well over 200k on ours and only did normal wear n tear engine shit, and still ran strong at damn near 300k when traded.
Strength is nothing more than how well you hide the pain

Yer hot, wet, and extremely satisfying. You always put a smile on my face and yer the first thing i want in my mouth when i wake up....aaaaaahhhhhh Coffee, my only friend.

In a 2000 S-10, the 4.3 is the only thing you don't have to worry about.

Sorry if that rubbed anyone the wrong way.

So I installed the flux capacitor but the Jeep just won't do 88 mph.

How about fuel milage, is there much difference between the 2.2 and 4.3? I used to own a 93 with a 2.5 and it was pretty good on fuel but have never owned a 4.3.

Sold my 92 with 300K on the clock, still going strong for my uncle 6 years later. Milage on my 2003 replacement was worse than my 92 (pretty much exact same options on both), but was getting better when I trade it in. About 400kms to a tank city, 500+ highway on a 4x4 with 4.10's I think.

I worked for chev dealers for 10 years. The 4.3 has no major issues. They do like a new set of intake gaskets every 60-100k but that's about it. In 10 years working for chev I did one set of head gaskets, Most of the isues seen tho was customer abuse. (IE no oil changes for the first 40 k etc. )

I got a 95 s10 4.3 4x4 . my motor has 260K on it with a replaced head gasket , my uncle was pulling out cemented fence posts and wasnt too nice to it . fuel mileage is decent I went from a 2.2 cavalier to the s10 and didnt really notice a big dent in the wallet .my truck is lifted 3 inches and runs 31's for its little size its a tank , all my buddies call it my tonka toy . the one issue to watch for is the vacume lines on the 4x4 but a posi lok and a manual tcase isnt too bad to install . pm me if you have any questions my truck is my DD and ive been through about everything with it .

Thanks for all the input guys, I have gone a different direction and bought a 02 GMC half ton 2wd sierra with a 4.8 V8. Too good of a deal to pass up even though its a little more money than I wanted to spend.
