    85 feiro

i am working on building a feiro. the back k frame is rotted so i was wondering if i could drop a k frame out of a 3800 or something like that and make it work some how. any ideas? or just a waist of time?

Been a few years since I was even near a Fiero let alone work on one but if I'm not mistaken the sub frame is the same as any GM X body cars of the same years. Not that it'd be any easier to find a good one of those but there were a couple million more of those made compared to the Fiero.

It HAS been a lot of years since I worked on one . Forgot they have that kind of goofy sub frame that pivots down, Fiero only. You could always tube frame it then you could put whatever engine you wanted in there. The 2.8 weren't bad, they weren't great either. If I was building a Fiero, a supercharged 3800 Buick would be my choice, but that's just me .

I was really into fiero building way back when. Alot of guys used the northstar engines out of caddies cause they were a very easy conversion. I believe they were the same 60 degree bolt pattern. There was also a big block that could be used if you paired it with a certain auto trany that worked really well . There used to be a company in toronto and one in windsor that made kits for dropping small block chevys in. Do a search for bubba's or V-8 archies, they used to be full of info and are probably still around. Don't rule out the 2.8!! They can be built pretty well and are not the same as the 2.8s that have a bad rap. The iron duke 2.5 engines had problems but the 2.8s were actually pretty good and could be built into a little screamer, I just liked the sound of the V8s better.

I have alway had a soft spot for the fiero. Was going to buy one, but needed too much work and at almost 6'6" I really don't fit in them!!!

I am 6'5" and my wife had a fiero ,if you put the seat to the front, then tilt it back you will be very happy driving one .We had a lot of fun in that car,but with the wide tires it was completely useless in the snow .
A 3800 would be an awesome swap, and pretty much daily I am offered a northstar for cheap ,either one is an easy fit ,and the 2800 could be swapped for a 3.1 with no problems either as they are pretty much the same block .

Scrap the heap and get a real car, there nothing but a death trap on wheels, i know a guy that had one got in an accident in it caught fire, while it was on fire his dad was the fire chief and was on duty and watch his son parish because of the positioning of the gas tank.

My 2 cents scrap would hate to see another young guy go by byb because of a piece of SHITE that gm built.

A good friend in college had a Series II in his Fiero with a custom flywheel and a Caviler 5 speed in it. Worked great, lots of power but still wanted the Supercharger.

As far as the 2.8 some were bad but some were very good. Uncle got about 380k on his I had a couple and they were great in my S10's. Did find that the car 2.8's were not an easy conversion into a truck as the starter and intake were in the wrong positions.

IMHO I drove one of those cars and it scared me. You sort of blew all over because the front was so light.

    Good luck either way.
