    99 - 06 VW Jetta & Passat Rust recall

Just thought i would let any of you Jeepers with Jettas/Passats know this.
I just got 2 FREE brand new front fenders covered by VW Canada due to a factory defect. If yours are rusting at the top of the wheel openning, go to your local dealer and they will fix it for FREE.
There is a foam sound deadener in the inner fender that holds moisture and rusts from the inside out.
Gotta love a company that stands behind there product like that, expecially on an 8 year old car. SWEET!!

The VW in Hamilton is pretty good dealership.
I walked in said "i got rusty fenders. i hear you replace them for free".
"Yep, let me grab my clipboard and camera"

Easy, no hassle at all. Couldn't be happier. They even buffed out some scrathes and touched up by bumper.

Dealer to dealer basis here...one in Ottawa I won't touch with a 10 foot pole. I swear, pond scum has a higher IQ then their entire staff. I've had absolutely no problems with Bytek - great service and no questions asked on warranty stuff.

Any expiry date on that recall? I haven't seen even a speck of rust on the fenders yet.

'03 for me, but like I say, no sign of rust there at the moment. Guess I'll ask next time it's in the shop.

VW Canada flew in an engineer and mechanic to look at the issue and they both can't determine what is causing the issue. It's with Volkswagen not the dealer. I know dealer from dealer can be different but it is solely on VW Canada. It's funny when a company can't figure out the issue with their brand new cars.

Kunker, can't find the TSB right now, but I remember seeing that if there is no sign of rust they will just trim the foam back an inch or so from the edge of the fender.

Wow! That is great news. Just recently picked up a 2000 Jetta TDI with my girlfriend and it just started to bubble there recently and the other side had paint flake off. I'll go in to the dealership and see what they say. **FingersCrossed**

After reading this thread, I googled it and seems like you can get declined the warranty however. Hopefully it works out for me because the rest of the car is mint.

I have a customer who also just picked up a '00 TDI. If someone has the TSB, I'll pass it along to him.
